Canadian Lynx

Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis) are deep snow specialists! They have long hind legs that assist with jumping and traveling in deep snow. They also have large paws and specialized toes which allow their feet to act as snow shoes. In fact, their feet are the same size as a mountain lion’s even though their body is much smaller. Snowshoe hares typically comprise 60% to 97% of their diet; as a result, the size of their population and their preferred habitat are a direct result of their favorite prey!
