Raccoon

Status: Least Concern

Northern Raccoons (Procyon Lotor) are found throughout the US and parts of Canada and Mexico. They  are known for their black masks and for “washing” their food. What they are actually doing is increasing the sensitivity of their nerves by getting their ‘hands’ wet. This helps them separate edible food from waste.  These highly adaptable animals will eat almost anything from frogs and rodents to plants and fruit.
