Striped Skunk

Striped Skunk

Status: Least Concern

The Striped Skunk (Mephitis mephitis) is one of 4 species of skunk found in Arizona. As a nomadic, nocturnal, and opportunistic feeding animal, striped skunks are constantly on the move, searching at night for food such as insects, spiders, worms, rodents, bird eggs, berries and fruit. Fluid from their scent glands can be sprayed in excess of 6 meters, as a last resort, onto a potential predator.
