What is our Zoo Teen Program
Our Zoo Teen Program is a volunteer opportunity for 13 through 17 year olds interested in wildlife, people, and helping Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary. This is a competitive program and there are limited spots each semester for incoming teens. This program requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours each semester.
Zoo Teens are responsible for hosting the Earth Day Celebration at Heritage Park, helping with major events at the Sanctuary, designing and putting together the zoo float for parades, helping as junior counselors during zoo camps, and helping to educate the visiting public about the animals that live at the Sanctuary.
The Zoo Teen program starts each semester with an orientation. Teens receive training about the animals at the Sanctuary, information about biofacts, and how to lead information stations. Along with learning about wildlife and conservation, the Zoo Teen Program builds confidence and teaches teens useful skills for the future.
