Zooteens is a volunteer program for 13 through 17 year-olds interested in wildlife, people, and helping HPZS.  This program requires a commitment of 20 hours each semester as well as participating in one major project for the Sanctuary.

Zooteens are responsible for hosting the Earth Day Celebration, helping with major events at the Sanctuary, info booths during events on the Courthouse Square and helping to education the visiting publig about the animals that live at the Sanctuary.

The ZooTeen Program starts each semester with an orientation.  Teens receive training about the animals at the Sanctuary, how to lead tours, information about biofacts and how to lead info stations.  Along with learning about wildlife and conservation, the ZooTeen program builds confidence and teaches teens useful skills for the future.

ZooTeen Semesters:

  • Spring Semester: January to May
  • Fall Semester: September to December
  • Summer Semester: June to August (For teens already in the program)
